Brophy Machined Steel Coupler Balls are trouble-free and little attention is required.

Installation

Insert coupler ball shank into ball mount hole and install lock washer and nut.
Use a drop of oil on threads and torque tighten nut as follows:
   5/8" shank @ 95 ft-lbs
   3/4" shank @ 180 ft-lbs
    1" shank @ 240 ft-lbs
1 1/4" shank @ 360 ft-lbs
1 3/8" shank @ 460 ft-lbs
Check coupler ball nut occasionally during normal use, and more often on long trips to be sure tension is maintained and nut does not loosen.
Make sure to use special lubricant or grease on ball so the coupler can move freely.

Notes

The coupler ball is the heart of your towing system. It costs the least and is the hardest-working component. It pays to use the very best for this critical part of the job.
All Brophy coupler balls comply with safety specifications and requirements of SAE J684. Important: Your towing capacity is limited to the lowest-rated towing component; be it the Receiver Hitch, Ball Mount, Coupler Ball, etc.
You may find it convenient to carry a number of different size coupler balls to suit various towing applications that arise. These different size coupler balls should all have the same shank size and be large enough to do the heaviest job required.
